Motorcycle Battery Do’s & Don’ts

Motorcycle batteries don’t require much regular maintenance and are pretty hassle free. However there are a couple of motorcycle battery do’s and don’ts you should know and be aware of.

Motorcycle Battery Do’s
• Always read the manual and follow instructions
• Check your battery on a regular basis and maintain it, especially in extreme hot or cold weather
• Recharge motorcycle batteries straight after discharge
• Think safety especially with electrolyte (battery acid), which is a highly corrosive poison and will produce flammable and toxic gasses when recharged and explode if ignited
• Consider buying a new motorcycle battery as bad batteries can harm the motorcycle’s charging system or starter

Motorcycle Battery Don’ts
• Never add new electrolyte (battery acid) to your motorcycle battery
• Never ever disconnect motorcycle battery cables while the engine is running .
• Don’t turn off the motorcycle battery charger while recharging batteries.
• Don’t add water from the tap as tap water can have minerals that will contaminate the battery acid.
• Don’t ever mix size and types of motorcycle batteries.
• Recycle old and used motorcycle batteries, don’t just chuck them away
