Here are some current factory recommended service procedures for troubleshooting motorcycle batteries.
If you do not have a maintenance kind of battery, without a vent pipe, then you need to cut approximately half an inch from the end. Then put electrolyte in the middle (make sure it is right between the high and the low marks on the case) and then wait for about 2 hours. But right not the battery is not fully charged. It is only at 65% charging level. You can add some more electrolytes liquid if you want to.
If you have a refillable lead-antimony type battery then it should be charged at about third round of the nominal capacity in ampere hours. It will take about four to five hours to get it fully charged. The maintenance free batteries must be charged using a constant current charger that can charge even a 16.9 volt drive. But you should always monitor closely this operation.
After hat, you have to verify the electrolyte level and also to add some water if you have to. Then get the battery fitted in place.
Here are some important troubleshooting tips you have to consider when you are charging a motorcycle battery:
1. Never forget the fact that the RED cable means positive and BLACK means negative. This will help you stay out of trouble and prevent accidents like shocks and short-circuits.
2. The charger must also be compatible with the motorcycle battery and he has to give a greater output than the battery voltage.
3. The connections must also be clean and the electrolyte has to be on an upper level.
4. You can also use the optimizer on the battery and that is great because it will switch off the battery when it gets completely charged and the battery will not overheat. You can also disconnect it manually.
5. Charge the battery once a month.
6. Use distilled water for the increase of the low cells.
